OVERVIEW

While looking to explore the potential of the Audi C8 RS6/RS7 platform we put our 2021 Audi RS6 to the test by comparing the stock dyno results to an E40 tune with the ARM exhaust upgrades.  The Audi C8 RS6/RS7 platform comes equipped with the EA825 motor, a 4.0T V8 Twin-Turbo engine with a claimed stock 591 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque at the crank.  After getting baseline numbers we installed our ARM 4.0T Downpipes, Midpipes, and Catback exhaust paired with an IE E40 tune to see what it would make at the wheels compared to stock.

RS6 STOCK DYNO RESULTS

Before making any changes, we always start with clean, repeatable baseline runs. This gives us a true apples-to-apples comparison and shows exactly where the factory setup is leaving power on the table.

Stock RS6 Highlights:

Factory ECU calibration

93 Octane Pump gas

Stock Hardware

The best stock results our RS6 could achieve on the Mustang Dyno were 552whp and 571wtq.  For the full stock dyno article details - Stock RS6 Dyno Results

Why E40? The Sweet Spot for the 4.0T Platform

According to IE, their E40 tune makes more power and torque (746whp/777wtq) than their 100% E85 tune (721whp/672wtq).  This is likely because E85 contains significantly less energy per unit of fuel than 93 octane, which means the engine must inject more fuel volume to make the same power.  In order to get the most out of full 100% E85 tune upgraded fueling components would be required.  This could be LPFP, HPFP, injectors, or all the above.  With these supporting fueling upgrades we could expect to see more horsepower and torque then even the E40 tune.

RS6 E40 Dyno Results

For the E40 dyno testing our RS6 was equipped with the following modifications.

ARM 4.0T Downpipes
ARM 4.0T Midpipes
ARM 4.0T Catback
IE E40 OTS Tune

With these modifications our RS6 was able to put down a best uncorrected 710whp and 799wtq.  This is peak gain of 131whp and 200wtq over OEM, and approximately 200whp and 240wtq at 4,500rpm over stock!  While at redline we are seeing roughly a 70whp increase over the stock tune calibration.

Conclusion

Overall we can see that the EA825 engine responds very well to tuning, with a lot of potential left on the table from the factory.  We witnessed massive gains across the entire RPM range, especially in the mid-range 3,700rpm and 5,000rpm.  We will be testing induction and cooling upgrades along with further refined tuning calibrations to see how well this platform responds compared to the exhaust upgrades alone.
